Can we find an economist who backs Nicola Willis's CGT stance?
The Spinoff Daily, Tuesday October 1.
Ahiahi mārie, welcome to The Spinoff Daily.
Today on The Spinoff: Return-to-office won’t save Wellington hospo, but here’s what could; Auckland’s dying all-ages gig scene loses another venue; watching Christopher Luxon watch the World of Wearable Art; and the revolutionary thinking inside a book of Marxist essays.
But first: Hayden Donnell tries, and struggles, to find an economist who supports Nicola Willis’s innovative CGT take.
“Nicola Willis appeared on RNZ’s Morning Report last Thursday, beset on all sides by affliction. Wokesters like the chief executive of ANZ, the IMF, and Newstalk ZB’s Kerre Woodham were piling on, urging the government to introduce a capital gains tax. She was there to teach those notorious pinkos a lesson and reintroduce some economic sense into the discussion. Things got off to a rough start. A mere 44 words into her explanation of New Zealand’s full economic context, presenter Corin Dann interrupted, asking her to return to the 35-word question at hand. ‘You had the benefit of a long question, and I’m going to give you a proper answer,’ she said.”
Home Education, a new docu-series from The Spinoff

Our documentary series follows these kids and their parents as they contend with the challenges and joys of education outside the bounds of a traditional classroom.
